This gemstone has come to be called ``Mandarin Garnet'' in the global market because of its mandarin orange-like hue.
Therefore, the mineral is spessartite garnet.

Mandarin garnet was discovered near the Kunene River in Namibia around 1992, but unfortunately the mine in the mountains of Namibia closed quickly after a few years.
However, later on, mandarin garnet, which resembles the Namibia stone, was discovered in Nigeria and entered the market around 1994.
