Rare stone recommended for collection: raspberry 0.87 CT
RECOMMEND POINT
This rare stone, raspberry beryl (petzotite), has a lustrous oval cabochon crystal and a gentle pink color.

A rare encounter with raspberry.

The gemstone was discovered in November 2002 in the Sakavarana mine in Fianarantsoa Province in southeastern Madagascar.

It was originally thought to be a type of beryl and came to be called raspberry or pink beryl.

However, after scientific analysis, in 2003 the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) recognized it as a new mineral with a similar structure to beryl, and the official name of both the mineral and the gemstone was changed to pezzottaite, after Dr. Federico Pezzotta, who analyzed the mineral.

In 2002, approximately 40 kg of rough stones were produced in Madagascar, of which only about 10% were of gem quality.

It has already been depleted in Madagascar, and although there is said to have been a small amount of production around 2017, there have been no new reports of production.

Like the famous German rare stone aventurine, it is mined by hand from pegmatite deposits as its quantities are so small it is impossible to extract it using heavy machinery.

There is very little gem quality and it has already been depleted, and large sizes are no longer available.
It is so popular that it can be called the rarest of rare stones.
In our store, we refer to it as Raspberry, based on its original nickname.

Although it is a gemstone that is quite rare to begin with, it is one that will become increasingly rare to see in the future.

This is a gem that you should cherish when you encounter it.
