[Loose stone appraisal certificate included] A mysterious large Mexican opal! Candy Pink Opal 8.21ct
A color scheme you've never seen before. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the pink background color of a Mexican iridescent opal. Speaking of pink opal, there is a type of pink opal called palygorskite, which has an opaque marbled pink color with no play of color. It's a completely different type of opal. This precious opal with play of color is the first of its kind in our store. Of course, pink iridescent opals that have been artificially colored do exist, but it is rare to see this color in natural opals from Mexico. ![]() ![]() It's not a completely vivid pink, but a soft pink with a hint of orange, which is unique to natural colors. This is a play-of-color opal that is typical of Mexican origin. So, we asked ChatGPT, the AI that has been the talk of the town in recent years, what color this gem is. It turns out to be a candy pink opal that sparkles with rainbow colors. The name of this opal has now been decided. The soft, milky pink base color is mixed with flashes of red and green, giving it a cute impression reminiscent of fruit candy. Opals also seem to capture the light of the morning glow. It also has such an elegant impression. ![]() ![]() Furthermore, this opal is over 8 carats in size. Even regular Mexican iridescent opals are quite large, but this size is extremely rare due to its rarely seen coloring. As for the amount of inclusions, they contain very fine granular inclusions that can only be seen with a magnifying glass, so the quality has been rated SI, but honestly I don't think they are noticeable to the naked eye. Mexican opals are of volcanic hydrothermal origin, so we speculate that these inclusions are probably present during the opal formation process, giving it a milky pink color. This is a fantastic opal even when viewed normally, but we would like collectors to view it with a magnifying glass in hand. ![]() ![]() We also checked with the person in charge at the appraisal agency where we submitted the stone, and they said that although there is natural opal, it is a mystery as to how it came to be that color. Even though it is a famous opal, I feel that there is still much that has not been discovered, but I think that even opal collectors would find it rare to own one with this level of perfection and rare color. Mysterious pink play-of-color opal from Mexico. The size, quality, and mystery are all excellent. If you are interested, please consider it. ![]()
