[Loose stone appraisal certificate included] A very rare, large, high-quality cat's eye! Rainbow Moonstone Cat's Eye 3.57 CT
Rainbow moonstone displays fantastic schiller. In recent years, it has become a very popular gemstone known as andesine labradorite, so many people may be familiar with it. Rainbow moonstone is actually made up of a mineral called labradorite, mixed with andesine. It is generally sold as rainbow moonstone or andesine labradorite, but in the industry market it is traded as white labradorite. Rainbow moonstone is a gemstone that is destined to contain inclusions, and many of the stones in circulation contain many inclusions. It contains needle-shaped ilmenite and "centipede" cracks that form under slight stress. It is so named because the many cracks make it look like a creature with long, thin legs. In other words, it is a mineral with severe internal cracks. Rainbow moonstone, whose crystals are unstable, is mostly mineral-like, so most of it is sold as perforated balls or mineral specimens, with some being sold as gemstones. The criteria for gem quality are that the stone has as few inclusions as possible (it is rare to find one without any flaws), is highly transparent, and has a beautiful color called Schiller. Schiller is a special light effect that refers to the changing light that appears to flicker inside the crystal. Schiller is formed by alternating layers of two feldspars (the components of moonstone) with different chemical compositions. When light interacts with labradorite, the diffraction of light creates a schiller called labradorescence. The rainbow color of Schiller is due to the thickness and refractive index of the alternating layers, and the color appears different depending on the direction from which it is viewed. These are all characteristics of gem-quality rainbow moonstone, but it is extremely rare for them to appear in a cat's eye. This is because the layers that produce labradorescence must be arranged in a regular, parallel pattern while avoiding large numbers of inclusions. It is extremely rare for the schiller to appear as a cat's eye, rather than simply containing inclusions that create a line. A truly natural production of light. What's more, it is a large 3.5 carat size for a rainbow moonstone. The inclusions are very minor, and considering the size and the appearance of the cat's eye, the condition can be said to be quite good. There are probably very few people in Japan who own a rainbow moonstone with such a clearly visible cat's eye. Rainbow moonstone has two special effects: Schiller effect and cat's eye effect. It's a very interesting gem to have in your collection. |
