Triphane is a mineral discovered in Brazil in 1887,
and its name comes from the Greek word meaning "three facets."

Also, it is a gem belonging to the spodumene group, where a characteristic feature of the mineral
is that one of its main constituents, aluminum,
is replaced by other elements, causing it to display various colors.

For instance, when manganese ions are highly prevalent in the main composition,
it becomes the purple or pink "Kunzite,"
and when chromium ions are prevalent,
it becomes the green "Hiddenite."

As for Triphane, the factors causing its coloration have yet to be fully unraveled,
leaving some mysterious aspects,
but it is an interesting characteristic that the gem's name changes depending on partial element substitution.

It is also famous as a healing stone.
For this reason, low-quality, brown-toned crystals that do not belong to Kunzite or Hiddenite
are sometimes recognized as Triphane in the general public,

but because crystals of spodumene with few inclusions are rare,
gem-grade specimens that are faceted
are almost exclusively yellow or golden-colored.
Naturally, this significantly increases their evaluation.

Due to its beauty, it is also called Yellow Kunzite.
