Hamburgite is a rare stone that emits a colorless, pure shine. The food-like name comes from the Swedish mineralogist Axel Hamberg, and it is also called Hambergite. There are many gemstones named after people's names, and hamburgite is one of them. It is usually produced as thin columnar crystals, and is extremely rare as it has strong cleavage and is difficult to cut, so it is mostly cut for collectors. Hamburgite has a colorless to pale yellowish-white base color and is characterized by its high birefringence. Although it does contain inclusions, the rainbow-colored fractures seen inside give it a natural feel, which is also a nice touch and makes collectors' hearts dance. It is a rare stone specialized for collections different from those for jewelry. I don't have many chances to see it, so I highly recommend it to collectors. |
